Become a  FRIEND

I welcome you to Pendyrus Male Choir. I trust that there will be an opportunity for your association and the choir to work together. An association with the Pendyrus Male Choir would be a means of bringing your corporate name, image and product before a wider audience in the venue of your choice in a unique way.
Music is a powerful emotional trigger and can be used effectively in image building, as well as providing direct contact through the audience with potential clients across the wide social spectrum.

Becoming a chorister is a route that may not be for you. However, as a Friend of the Choir, you will have a direct link with the choir with the full knowledge that you are helping Pendyrus who have a passion to perform and are justly proud to be singing since 1924
Sincerely

Dinner Concert Success

2008 has started with Pendyrus breaking new ground and one hundred and fifty guests were delighted with the enjoyable musical supper evening that was full of warmth and cheer. In fact, the assembled guests were left speechless! The choir has frequently been engaged to sing at prestigious dinners such as major corporation awards and the national conferences of professional bodies, invariably singing after guest speakers. The Dinner Concert at Pontyclun Rugby & Sports Club on January 25th was a significant departure; it was promoted by the choir, there were no speeches, just good food and then straight into the singing. What a success the evening turned out to be!

All tickets were sold within a week of their release last October and there was a long list of hopefuls waiting to snap up any returns. The committee, management and staff of the Pontyclun Club were extremely helpful and gave diners and choristers a warm welcome. Church Village Caterers lived up to their high reputation for quality and efficiency and the choir took the stage on time at 9.45 p.m.

The Concert Hour, that followed was not cabaret, it included items from across the male voice repertoire, from “ O! na byddai’n haf o hyd” to “You’ll never walk alone” and from Alun Hoddinott to Adolphe Adam’s mighty “Comrades in Arms”.

The diners loved it and first-time guest Viv White summed up the general feeling: “A most splendid, delightful evening, the food was excellent and the singing was extraordinaire! I look forward to the next time.

Without a doubt, Pendyus helped to shorten a winter’s evening.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP ~ THEY'VE EARNED IT

Life membership is granted in recognition of exceptional services to the choir and since 1974, it been the practice to make the award to choristers who have completed 21 years’ membership. This year we have an          Englishman, Irishman and a Welshman who have given loyal service to PENDYRUS. Congratulations to the three   troubadours.

JOHN WIGGAM,a Lancashire man who moved to Tylorstown after his marriage. Over he ensuing years, John has mastered the pronunciation of the Welsh language. John joined the choir after Ferndale Male Choir was disbanded.

EDMUND DUFFY joined Pendyrus in June 1987 and has contributed not only as a chorister also as a soloist. Ed was born in Mountain Ash, one of the Cyber Commndos,  but whose ancestral roots are in County Donegal. No prouder Welsh/Irishman can be found anywhere. Blessed with a fine baritone voice, Ed has now been with Pendyrus for 21 years.

EMLYN GREAVES who enrolled in the bass section has been with Pendyrus for 21 years. The Maerdy boy octogenarian joined the choir after the  Ferndale Choir disbanded. Currently he is not in the best of health, but still keeps in touch with the choir.

They have helped to soothed countless audiences

BACK ROW COMMITTEE Twice a week the Bass back-row team rehearse and hold their committee meeting while at the same time bribe the conductor with sweets. Between them, the four troubadours whose combined age exceeds 200 years singing experience, have helped to sooth countless audiences and gladdened the hearts of thousands of people who attended performances at concert halls, theatres, cathedrals and churches throughout the UK and abroad. A worthy record by concert hardened veterans.
