Rhondda Choir to represent Wales in Festival Interceltique de Lorient 2018.
Pendyrus Male Choir has been invited to represent Wales in the biggest Celtic Music
Festival in the world this summer for the ‘Year Of Wales’ at Lorient in Brittany.
Over 65 members of the choir will travel to northern France at the beginning of August to perform for audiences of 1000’s, French television and they will sing at the beautiful Cathedral de Saint-Louis for a concert which will be attended by Welsh First Minister, Carwyn Jones.
Pendyrus is no stranger to this festival, having performed there in 2011. Following this tour
the organisers wrote ‘This is the finest Welsh Choir to have performed at this Festival and
we would very much like them to return for the ‘Année du Pays de Galles’, the Year Of Wales, in 2018.
With a membership of nearly 100, Pendyrus is the largest choir in the Rhondda and indeed
one of the largest in Wales. The choir has in recent years also enjoyed competitive success
having won the Cardigan Semi-National Eisteddfod in 2010,2012 and 2017.
The choir is always looking for new members. They rehearse at the Rhondda Fach Sports
Centre, Tylorstown on Monday and Wednesday evenings between 7.30 and 9.15. A warm
welcome to be guaranteed to all new members and visitors!
