Description

This is our first production under the direction of Ieuan Jones, only the sixth Musical Director of Pendyrus Male Choir in almost a century. As is the case with all MDs they have their personal choices of music for the Choir to record, those choices reflecting the direction of travel Pendyrus has taken since his tenure began in 2019.

The inclusion of newer works such as ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen, and ‘Let the River Run’ by Carly Simon, both arranged by Ieuan, with ‘Singin’ in the Rain’, ‘Bring Him Home’, and ‘Bui Doi’ are all part of a more modern repertoire that now features in Pendyrus concerts.

‘A Roman War Song’ by Wagner is perhaps an exception, an item for which we often team up with Brass Bands in concert, and one that tests the verbal dexterity and breath control of the choristers.
The vastly popular ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran, another arrangement by Ieuan, has been a difficult ‘learn’, with changing rhythms and phrasing.

Ieuan has revived several works such as, ‘Y Delyn Aur’, ‘Mae D’Eisiau Di’, ‘Cyn Cau Llygaid’, and ‘The Lord’s Prayer’, which have been welcomed with relish by the Choir.

Welsh hymns are renowned for their Amen and, you will not be disappointed as many of them abound on this CD like ‘Deus Salutis’ and ‘Calon Lân’ but tempered with the ever- popular Myfanwy, and a fitting finale with our National Anthem, ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’
